Rama and Sasthry at my house

One day an old man came to my house around seven o clock in the night. He introduced himself as our bank customer. He wanted me to credit money into his account ,the next day. I told him that I would do no such thing.I did not entertain him and he went back disappointed.I did not want customers or staff to come to my house.After that time,no customer came to my house. As my colleagues knew that I was alone with my kids,they did not come to my house. They knew that I would not be comfortable if they came. Even otherwise,every day we would be spending so much time at the branch. There would be nothing for them to come home and tell me. During my second year at Karakambadi,Sasthry and Rama came to my house,one sunday afternoon. She wanted me to apply for mutual transfer. She would try sincerely for transfer as she had good rapport with those who give transfers.I frankly told her that I was happy as itw as. I did not want to go to Nellore.SHe was disppointed and returned.I was unhappy with Prasad and going back to him meant that I compromised with my stand. Later,my mother in law requested me to return back to Nellore.PRasads time was not good. We had to bear with him till good times come.DUring my second year at Karakambadi,I was unhappy.I did not know what I had to do.at that time,Mallikarjuna told me that sorting out personal life and establishing congenial married life was more important for a person than ones carear.He promised he would help me get transfer to Nellore.All I had to do was give him a request letter.I obliged him. When executives cme to the branch ,on their way to Tirumala,he would request them on my behalf for my transfer.SUccesfully,I got my transfer letter.At that time,we used to get transfers during summer,when schools are closed. But now,there is no such rule.Because most of the transfers are rquest transfers and people are eager to leave and join their families, whenever they get the transfers. Prasad took Vikky,Vinny,Lucky to Nellore for summer holidays.I was alone .passing each day was a hell to me. I had to stay till someone relieved me,because it was a small and rural branch.Subbamma,our daily wager helped me to pack every thing.Mallikarjuna arranged lorry and sent SUbbammas relative to help me. I went in the lorry along with my belongings to Nellore,sitting beside driver, in the middle of night.SUbbammas relative accompanied me.

Vikky at the branch

I think Vikky was studying fourth standard at that time.he got less marks in maths in half yearly exams.my father in law had come to take the children to Nellore and Talupur for holidays. I was angry that Vikky did not get good percentage in maths. So,I did not send him with his sisters to Nellore.but from that day,I was concerned about his happiness. i felt silly also for not sending him along with his sisters. After all,he was just in his fourth standard.
So,daily I used to take him to the branch along with me. I could not leave him at home all alone daily from morning nine to evening six o clock.there in the lunch room he used to sit and practice origami,preparing things with paper. Prasad brought him Origami book. And he learnt all that was in the book. Mallikarjuna used to send him to his house and play with his daughters and show them how to prepare those boats and papercrafts  with paper .Vikky used to come to me by lunch time. After lunch,I used to send him to matinee at Lakshmi Narasimha theatre opposite our branch.while returning,I used to take him to Mayura hotel and we used to have masala dosa and come home.that week end I took him t Nellore and left him with his father and sisters and returned to join my duty.
Life was so hectic that I did not have time to think of myself.I had to get up early in the morning and prepare tiffin and lunch.I should see that they eat their breakfast and get ready. lakky was small and she was weeping to get ready for the school.she was afraid to go to the school in school rickshaw. So,daily I had to drop children in their school and then go to the bank.in the evening all three of them used to return home.I had no time to think whether I was physically alright or not . After going to the branch ,I used to realise that I had fever or flu or any other illness.I could not work and applying leave,I used to return home.Mallikarjuna used to tell me to take rest for sometime in the lunch room.why waste when already half the day is over?but I used to feel exhausted and weak. So,I used to apply leave  and return home to take rest before children come from their school.

Mallikarjuna

I worked with Mallikarjuna at Nellore,when we were both clerks. He was senior to me in service but junior in age.he completed CAIIB both the parts,by the time he got eligibility to go promotion test.he got selected in his first attempt itself  as an officer.I too wanted to complete my CAIIB and then go for  promotion test and qualify. But unfortunately,Though I completed CAIIB both parts,due to family reasons,I could not prepare really hard for the exams and pass the written test. More over,I was satisfied with my family life...husband,three children and combined family where motherinlaw,brothers in law and sister in law looked after my children very well.may be I was not really serious to go for promotion.
After Madhava Rao and MSN Sarma got transferred,Mallikarjuna came as branch in charge at Karakambadi.he knew I was a hood worker and fast worker. So,he never used to nag me for late sitting.he was concerned about my troubles and my family life.so,when AGM had come to visit the branch,he requested him on my behalf to see that I get transfer toNellore.
In the mean time,I went to Nellore branch once and Kuppaiah chetty,then State secretary ,was there.Ram Prasad also introduced me to him and told that I be helped by getting me transferred to Nellore as early as possible.
During year end parties, used to say that if they let me come with my kids,I would attend. Other wise it would be difficult for me and I would absent. So,once every one came with their families and we had dinner at tirupathi.next year ,he arranged at the branch itself.except me every one was interested in non veg food. So,he asked his wife to cook veg food for me and she happily obliged.I went to their house and had my lunch.
When I got my transfer to Nellore for the second time,he helped me by arranging lorry and to see that relative of our sweeper accompany me to Nellore with luggage.in those days,I used to go with luggage even in lorry.I was neither afraid nor ashamed to go in lorry ,whether it be night or day. I never cared what people would think about my actions.

Railway SI in Bharathi bus

Those were very bad days for me.Prasad gave resignation to his job be ause they transferred him to Hyderabad.our car was with Charminar Sathyam. He was neither paying us some amount for using the car nor handing over the car to us.we were hard pressed for money.

One day Raghav,WRR ,Sasthry and my self were travelling in Bharathi bus to Karakambadi. While in the bus,I started telling these things to them. One railway SI was hearing what I was telling. He intervened and told me that he had many police officials in high circles at Chennai. He cpuld easily help us in getting our car back. They would threaten Charminar Sathyam oralLy and see that it is handed over to us. I was attracted by those words. It was like Amrutham to my ears and senses. He talked as if he would bring it back the same day,if I showed him Sathyams house.Itw as as if I had gone into trance with his words. i got down with him at Renigunta bus stand amd went with him to Railway station. i told Prasad and Raghav that I was not coming to the branch with them,because that man was going to help me get back our car.

They understood that I was not in my senses and was not thinking properly. So as soon as they went to the branch ,they alerted Mallikarjuna that I went to Railways tation with some SI ,whom I knew nothing about.Mallikarjuna immediately telephoned to the police station at Railway station and told him that he was coming to pick me up.within minutes,he came and took me from that police station. Actually,it was abig room. There was no one there. Only some files and registers were there. 

Even today,I do not know how and why I believed his words that he would do what promised to do.may be he thought I was a fool to believe him and go with him. Really,I was at that point. I do not know what would have happened if Mallikarjuna did not come promptly and took me away from there. My colleagues used to come to my help even when I did not ask them. I am grateful to them for their timely help and advice in those hardtimes.

Manohar rao

Manohar Rao first came to our branch on getting promoted. He was the topper in written test that year. When ,he visited the branch,his posting to Karakambadi was not confirmed. But he wanted to look at the branch before making moves  to get transfer to this branch on promotion. 

After few weeks,he joined at the branch. He is Maharashtra Brahmin.he joined at some branch as sub staff,when his manager was Sri Rama Rao. With his encouragement he passed matriculation and wrote clerical elogibility test and got promoted as clerk. Then he completed his degree,and I think he did CAIIB.I am not sure. But he passed promotion test coming first in the state in written test.

He has smiling face and cute to look at.we had nice time at the branch .

One day,my refill was exhausted and I asked for a new one. Then ,he asked me to show it. i got very angry at his attitude and gave him an arrogant reply.

After,MSN Sarma got transferred to Kharagpur,Mallikarjuna came as branch manager. We worked as clerks at Nellore branch. He is younger to me in age by one year and senior to me in service .during half year wnding and year ending,generally clerks and officers stay and work more. but I never used to do so. Whatever was entrusted to me I used to complete and go home at normal time.I would not over stay. Once, it was half year ending and it fell on Satur day.I was leaving the branch sharp by Two o clock. He was guesturing to Mallikarjuna that I was leaving and told him to stop me. mallikarjuna asked him to keep quiet and let me go home.he knew that I would not stay,even if he asked.I never asked them permissions and I never liked to overstay and work after banking hours.

Basavaraju tho incident

Basava raju was an officer at Nellore branch. i too worked with him at Nellore. Once,he came to Karakambadi on deputation. it seems that MSN ,as manager in charge,humiliated him. he wenta way silently. Next time,when he was sent here on deputation again,he insisted that unless he actually verified all the security items,he would not take charge of the keys.he insisted on checking gold packets also. I do not know if MSN had learnt his lesson or. Not from that incident. Because,just because the other person is silent and calm,you can not take him for a fool or inefficient.later,Donga Nageswara Rao also came on deputation and hew as always making fun of MSN because they thought he was sakala kalaa vallabhan.

For few days,LSN Prasad came on deputation.he seemed to be a nice guy. But as soon as I got transferred to Nellore again ,he was said to have admitted in Government district Hospital for Rabies treatment.we all went to see him at the hospital. Me eldest sister was doctor there at that time. She confirmed the news. All the staff who attended him got vaccinated for rabies. They took him to Chennai. There he passed away and they did not even give

 the body to them. They cremated it.he had three daughters, his wife was Syndicate bank employee. Later we came to know that he always doubted his wifes integrity and suspected her of loose morals. but she was a good charactered woman. He did not alter nomination in any one of the things like PF,Gratuity and other benefits . His parents nomination was there and they came and took it away. At that time ,we knew the importance of nomination.it seems she went to Hyderabad where her brothers were there and she did not get even a single pie from him on posterity.

Madhav rao and MSN

Madhav Rao and MSN ,both were from Nellore. I worked with MSN at Nellore branch ,but by the time I was transferred to Nellore,Madhav Rao had been transferred to Hyderabad,CO on promotion.Madhav Rao was very silent and quiet. he was a serious and sincere worker. In contrast,MSN was jovial and loud all the time.But ,when I joined MSN was on leave. so,I got supervisory duties.transactions were very minimal and one clerk had to do all the work,like taking cash and when customers waited had to come out and post the transactions in the ledgers and again go into the cash cabin. After closing cash waste and transfer waste,I had to go and check the cash and cash register. i was the second key holder. Raghav and Sastry were very helpful.I worked with Sastry at Nellore branch. he was called as circular sastrybecause,what ever work you entrust him, he would demand circular to that effect that he should do it as a sub staff. His uncle was DM or DGM at that time at Chennai.he knew every work in the branch ,but he had no educational qualification to work as     a clerk.raghva and Sastry were actually class mates in their school days. They were very good friends and I too was accepted as their friend and the atmosphere in the branch was good.
On completion of their leave,MSNjoined and Rama was relieved and she joined at Nellore in my place. MSN always tookride in the fact that he taught all the work to Rama and so he was proud of her efficiency. For every thing he used to praise her.I was fast in my work ,but did not know many departments like advances,statements,and deposits. Because my hand writing wS not good,they would not give me deposits section, because at that time deposit receipts were written manually .advances and statements were given to senior boys only at Nellorea nd Guntur branches.He used to make fun of me that I was like a goods train which would go fast in desert area and where there were no stations.
As soon as I got my transfer,Madhav Rao was transferred back to Hyderabad CO and MSN was made manager in charge.he started to show off his power.
He used to boast his powers at Hyd Co. Once,Nagendra prasad got transferred to Karakambadi. He previously worked here.MSN did not like him. At that time ,he was at Hyd and he succefully modified his transfer to Chittoor and in his place David was transferred to Karakambadi.
One day,a branch advice sent by Karakambadi branch to some place in Kerala district came back. There was a note attached to it. It read ...we are unable to read and decipher it. Please ,write it legibly and send it again to enable us to do the needful.that branch advice was written by Rama. Actually her hand writing is also not good.from that day onwards,MSN stopped praising Rama,because I would attack him with this incident.
At first,I would frequently go to Nellore,because my family was there. One day,he told me to go early before 2PM. I told him that I would go only on condition that he would never ask me to stay late hours or work extra in future after banking hours. From then onwards,he would never ask me to go early.
But ,he is a nice guy. Even now,we are friends.he was soon transferred to Kharagpur. One day he threatened me that he would see that I be transferred to H kairavaadi or Khairatabad,if I did not function in the branch as he said. Then I said ,once I
LEft my hometown,Nellore,it is same to me whether I am at Karakambadi or H kairavadi and he could do as he pleased.but soon after that incident,he was transferred to Kharagpur and I laughed at him.we were fighting like this on so many petty issues. But we never bred ill will for long. Next day,we were normal and jovial and working with competence.

Transfer to Karakambadi

As per RamPrasads assurance,I received transfer orders to Karakambadi,while I was in deputation only.one day,I was returning home from bus stand to thulasaapuram mitta after banking hours. Near VV Mahal,I saw Rajeswari. I was happy to see her.i told her that I actually wanted to meet their parents and that I had been transferred to Karakambadi. I was in search of  a rented house. She told me that their house was near by and mom was at home. We call them Kandukur vaallu because they hail from Kandukur,nativeplace of my father.actually my father and Rajeswarisfather worked inPWD and we were family friends.
She told me that there was vacant house near by and house owners were decent people and took me there.it was a neat small house with a kitchen,hall and a bed room.they said the rent was four hundred which was affordable by me and I immediately Okayed it.
I went to Radhas house and told her about thehouse and she toow as happy because there were no decent reasonable houses vacant in Thulasaapurammitta at that time.on completion of  deputation,I profusely thanked her for allowing me to stay in her house for fifteen days though she was hard pressed for money. She did it because she was my childhood friend. While coming from Bank,I used to bring vegetables or pulses or fruits,because she would feel humiliated if I gave her money .I used to help her in cooking.I was very happy for spending my time as an individual  with a child hood friend. 

Deputation to Karakambadi

This year also I have received transfer order to Hyderabad.my fathers in law were combined. So,we were looking after almost twenty members in our house. So,as Vasu,my brother in law was at Hyderabad,we thought that we could stay with him in his house. At least rent and other expenses could be minimised. but. He bluntly told my husband that he would not entertain us in his house.Financially,we were pressed. So,I had to request Ram Prasad, to show me way out . He talked to higher union leaders at Hyderabad and made arrangements to modification to my transfer orders issued earlier.
In the mean  time,Karakambadi branch asked for deputation of clerical staff for fifteen days. By then ,I have not actually received my modification letter,but was sure to get it.Ramrasad told me that deputation has nothing to do with my transfer. Whether I go on deputation or not,I would surely be getting the orders. so,of I wanted I could say no.but I accepted to go on deputation. I sent my three children to Talupur,where their grand parents stayed.
Prasad and I went to Tirupathi and stayed at Seven hills residence near by RTC bus stand.nextd ay morning,we enquired at the counter and they told that Bharathi buses will go to Karakambadi,on their way to Puttur.
Prasad helped me catch that bus and he went to Nellore.by 9:20AM,I reached Karakambadi branch.branch was closed and all around lorries were there. It is the Renigunta check post area,practically.I sat on the steps and waited for the staff to come.
Madhav Rao was the manager. AN Sastry was substaff. VV Raghav was the clerk.Ramadevi and MSN Murthy were on Lfc leave.Actually I came in her place.
Practically there were no transactions. There were only single digit cash and transfer transactions.
During those fifteen days ,I stayed with my friend,Radha,Pushpammas daughter.she was living for rent in their earlier own house only. her brother had sold it to their relatives.

Aayanaku nenua salu anthaku mundu parichayam ledu. Kaani nannu choodagaane yemammaa,meekemannaaproblems vunnaayaa? Healthroblems yemainaa vunnaayaa? OSC DEPARTMENT

Next I was given dds and osc department. Sundari was my only lady colleague. She was a tamil brahmin who married a Singh. He was already married.She was a very good girl. She did not have children. She was worried about that. So as my sisters were doctors I took her to my eldest sister who did D&C . But it was of no use. She did not get pregnant.WE used to go to bath room and to chandravilas at 12.30pm to have light tiffin together. There used to come so many dds for writing and amount had to be printed in figures by hand machine. As I am a left hander , I used to write the written part with right hand and print the figures with left hand. And I was pretty fast. Even customers used to appreciate me at my fastness. Because they need not wait for long for the dds.

Regarding oscs we had lodge manually and put endorsements on the back of the instrument invariably. It seems in one particular case I had forgotten to put the endorsement seal and our special assistant Suresh also ignored it. Cheque was returned promptly for the reason that endorsement was not put. One day the particular customer had come to enquire about the fate of the instrument .Sundari and I were ready to go to bathroom. Ijust laughed at him and showed to ask my superviser and left. It seems he got angry and scolded our supervisor for the delay and left. Then when we searched we found it was returned and sent it again for collection.Iwas very sorry for my careless attitude towards the customer and from thenonwards I never missed putting endorsements on the back of the instrument to be sent for collection.
